This month, we are taking a quick look at Yaskawa AC servo motors Specifically, we will be spotlighting the USAM, USAF, USAS, and USAD series motors. These flange mounted, permanent magnet servos are direct drive style motors intended for use with the Yaskawa CACR-SR servo packs.
As is the case with Yaskawa servo drives, the model number of the unit describes the characteristics and ratings of the product. These AC servo motors are no different. After USA, the next character designates the series of motor. This can be M, F, S or D. Following the series designation is the enclosure style. An ‘E’ signifies totally enclosed, self-cooled servo motors where a ‘K’ refers to an externally fan cooled-motor. The letter following this designates the magnet type; either D (ferrite core) or M (rare earth). The motor output capacity and revision order follow.
The M series has the largest possible max output rated motor, at 6kW. The S series has the smallest max output rating at 3.08kW. These motors can be rated as low as 0.15kW! In the model number, the 4th character after the dash specifies the feedback unit on the motor. Following this is either a 1, to denote tapered shaft, or a 2, to denote straight shaft. The remaining characters in the servo model names are used for additional specifications such as shaft seals, brakes or keyways.
